Miniature Schnauzer Mixed with Toy Poodle!  This designer breed is called a Schnoodle.  These mixed breed dogs are a good choice for families that are look for a non-shedding breed of small puppy.  Add an outgoing personality, a portable size, and sporty good looks, and you’ve got an ideal family dog, a bright, friendly, trainable companion, small enough to adapt to apartment life but tireless enough to patrol acres of farmland. They can also be eager, athletic, and wickedly smart dogs of remarkable versatility. They get along well with other animals and kids.

History

The Schnoodle is a hybrid of both the Schnauzer and the Poodle, two actively fierce and adorable dogs. The first appearance of the Schnoodle was in the 1980s. they needed to bring the Poodle’s calm, sensitive and loving characteristics together with a Schnauzer’s active, fierce and intelligent characteristics.

One more thing they needed to do was transfer the Poodle’s hypoallergenic nature to another dog- a new breed. Thus, the Schnoodle was created. The Schnoodle comes in a variety of colors that either type of parent breed comes in.

Temperament

The Schnoodle is a very active dog; they are always jumpy and playful and also love to be the center of attention. They take two distinctive character traits from both parents; from the poodle, they take the attention-seeking desire to please, and from the Schnauzer, they take the full-blown activeness.

They are very friendly and love to be with family and children. They adapt easily to a new environment and they are not very annoying when you first get them as they easily adjust to your characteristics. This adaptability helps in creating a better relationship between you and the dog. They are also highly sensitive dogs. The Schnoodle, because of the intelligence of both parents inherited, is a very intelligent dog.

Exercise

Although they are very active dogs, the Schnoodle requires at least 30 minutes to one-hour exercise daily to keep them from gaining weight and to keep them active and healthy. They need to be stimulated both physically and mentally as often as possible, to keep them intelligent.

Grooming

You will need to learn how to brush how to brush your Schnoodle daily to keep his coat from matting. If you do not brush and comb a full-coated Schnoodle completely to the skin, the hair will mat near the roots and will have to be shaved off to start all over with new growth. The breed sheds very little.  Most owners of Schnoodles choose to have the coat trimmed with clippers by a professional groomer. This should be done every five to eight weeks for the dog to look his best.

The Schnoodle should get a bath once a month or so, depending on his surroundings. Nails should be trimmed monthly and ears checked weekly for debris or excess wax, and cleaned as needed. The breed’s relatively nonshedding coat makes the breed a good choice for people with allergies.
